Councilwoman Barbara Blass is sworn in as deputy supervisor by her husband Greg Tuesday night. The Town Board decided to make Ms. Blass deputy supervisor until the end of the year as a tribute to her having served more than 20 years in town government. Ms. Blass opted not to seek reelection this fall.

Town Historian Georgette Case (center) at the gravestone of former Riverhead Town Supervisor Sylvestor Miller as his descendents (from left) great great grandson John Hart, great grand neice Carol Eibs and great great grandson Thomas Miller place flowers during the grave marker dedication ceremony Thursday evening in cooperation with the trustees of the Wading River Cemetery Association. Mr. Miller was born in 1810 and died in 1868. Her served as supervisor from 1841 to 1861, the longest serving supervisor in the town's history.  He was married to Emily Tuthill and had nine children.He also served as Jucstice of the Peace, Commissioner of Common School, Excise Coordinator, Chair of Auditors, Clerk of Election, Militia Commisssioner and Overseer of Highway. Former supervisors Joe Janoski, Jim Start and Bob Kozakiewicz attended the ceremony.
